Deputy Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Garden Centre Deputy Manager to take responsibility for the retail operations. The Palace Gardener is an independent garden centre, located in a beautiful location in Fulham; offering a unique experience, gardening services and a wide and carefully curated collection of plants and other gardening products. We are looking for an energetic, experienced and inspiring individual with an eye for detail and excellent customer service skills.

  • Reporting to the General Manager, you will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the industry and current trends. You will be involved in the buying process, as well as store operations.


  • Assisting in the management of day-to-day operations of the store, including sales, customer service, maintaining store standards and liaising with contractors.

  • Assisting in the recruitment, training, scheduling and supervising of all staff members and ensuring that all company policies, procedures and directives are being followed.

  • Providing guidance and support for department heads in buying, inventory management, maintenance of stock and visual merchandising.

  • Working with external workshop providers to deliver a programme of customer events.

  • Working as an integral member of the retail team as and when required.

Essential skills and experience:


  • Experience in a customer service role, preferably in retail

  • Good horticultural knowledge

  • Excellent command of spoken English

  • Ability to lead a team

  • Excellent IT skills

  • Strong time-management, organisation, planning and problem-solving skills

  • An eye for detail and a can-do attitude
